James Brown enjoys a varied career as an organist, pianist, accompanist and choral conductor.
Since 2007 James has been Organist of the historic University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Oxford, with its professional choir.
James is also musical director and conductor of the Cherwell Singers. This mixed voice Oxford based chamber choir presents three concerts a year with professional instrumentalists and soloists, as well as singing for private events.
James is a classical pianist and accompanist for the Swan Hellenic and Fred. Olsen cruise lines where he performs as a soloist as well as with opera singers and instrumentalists.
James teaches the organ at Abingdon School and New College School, as well as privately, and several of his pupils have gone on to win Oxbridge organ awards, including at St John’s College, Trinity College and Clare College, Cambridge.
James works as the accompanist and organist to local choirs such as the Oxford Orpheus choir Â (conductor Robert Dean) and NewChoir Oxford, as well as guest appearances with other choirs and choral societies in the UK. Â As an organist he has given solo recitals in Switzerland, Belgium, the UK and the USA.
Since 2006 James has sung as a tenor lay clerk with the internationally acclaimed choir of New College, Oxford.Â With this choir he has participated in many award winning recordings, BBC broadcasts and international tours including the USA and throughout Europe.
